Steamed flies?

Triggered by Eriks topical post in which I found this
"it's not that food in shops [in Europe] is of a better quality (it often isn't)," I want to outline my current does-it-really-matter-do-have-tiny-flies-in-your-tea-bag-as-they-will-be-deadlydead-anyway-once-hot-water-is-being-poured-over-them thoughts.
As always, I buy my fennel seeds at the Indian store, because they are a lot cheaper then the German drugstores or supermarkets.
Today, they had a different brand than ususally, which didn't bother me at all. Same weight, same price, same seeds...that is all I am interested in. However, when I wanted to open the bag at home, I discovered tiny flies inside. Not one, not two...I am bad at guessing, but I would say...."a lot". I wondered what to do - the thought of drinking flie's shit did not really charm me. Neither the thought of swallowing an eye or flie's blood. The situation also reminded me of the incident last year, when I bought sticky rice (unfortunately, I have to mention that this also happened at an Asian market, which is not really of interest here). AFTER having nearly finished my bowl of rice, I discovered a huge amount of ..worms....YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I cannot tell how many there were, but certainly a lot. I did not recognise them, because those in my rice did not really move anymore....
Yeah, well...coming back to my tea: I do not know whether it really matters to soak them..I mean - they won't change the taste, will they? And after all...even in these organic food products they have all kinds of insects. It's nature! And we are animals.
Carnivores. ..
So who cares? (apart from the flies?) That's life, in'it?

Haha! My philosophy has always been "if you can't see it then it doesn't matter". Iremember picking cherries in summer and stuffing my face, then once I bit one in half and noticed a worm in it. I tried another few and found worms in half of them. I must have already eaten about fifty of them and I hadn't noticed at all. Since then I try not to care.

By the way, bfore heading off to Mount Olympus (post coming soon) I checked out your blog and so for the entire ascent I had Son of a Preacher Man in my head. Still, there are far worse songs to have going round your head, so thanks. (P.S. Such a shame that English doesn't have a word for "Ohrworm".)

At least it's better than flied lice!

Haha, yeah probably. And I totally agree with you saying that we do not care eating flies as long as we do not see them, so why bothering only because there is evidence? Insects are in our food anyway. We KNOW that. But as soon as we see it, we get disgusted. I might think about that ;) .

Oops, your comment sounds as if you do not like Son of a Preacher Man? I do actually, but that is due to the melody not the text.

With regard to "Ohrwurm": dict.leo suggests "ear candy" haha... or "catchy tune". Why not just call it "earworm"?

Btw...does the word "reading rat" exist? (Leseratte?) :)

Don't get me wrong, I love Son of a Preacher Man, and so was thankful to have it, rather than some Backstreet Boys crap, doing the rounds of my underworked mind.

As for Leseratte, the English version is bookworm (finally here is a worm).
